Is He A Liar? May 03 2009

"No one comes to the Father but through Me." - John 14:6

A 2005 Newsweek poll asked, “Can a good person that doesn’t share your religious beliefs attain salvation or go to heaven?” Here are the results: 79% of Americans said yes, a person who doesn’t share your religious beliefs can attain salvation and go to heaven just as long as they are a good person! Here was the breakdown of those agreeing with that statement -- 73% of non-Christians, 91% of Roman Catholics, 83% of non-evangelical (mainline) Protestants, said that all you have to do is be a good person! But then look at this. 68% of evangelical Protestants -- that’s Bible believing, born again Christians -- 68% said that “good” people can attain salvation, even if it’s different from what Christ says.

Even though the majority of Americans believe there are many ways to heaven, Jesus says there is but one. As He made clear throughout the Bible, the only way to heaven is through Him. If you are one of those who believes otherwise, then you need to have the honesty and integrity to say, “Jesus lied.” And if Jesus lied, He is clearly not the Son of God and you don’t want to waste your life by following Him. Did Jesus lie? Or did He tell the truth? It’s as simple as that.

Its important to keep in mind that 'religion' is a belief system, we have various 'religions' that are 'Christian' centric, Catholic, Protestant, Baptist, to name a few. Though I do understand the context the devotion was trying to illustrate, however its important to know how Newsweek defined the 'religion' criteria.

Jesus said it over and over and over that He is the only way. NO, you cannot get there by simply being a good person. You have to be born again by the Spirit in Jesus alone.

How many ways are there to Jesus? I would guess that there are as many as are necessary for every person to have the opportunity to be saved. How else would a loving God, whose Son died for our sins do it?

Many ways to The One WAY. It requires faith, and that by grace, as Paul says.

I am thankful God made it perfectly clear through the words of Jesus recorded in the Bible that Jesus is the only way. I think many people are afraid of hurting people's feelings so they go with the all ways lead to God but those people are pleasing people rather than pleasing God. They are not enlightening those in the dark when they are reluctant to reveal the truth that many of them are aware of. Their coolness today nay lead to a hot eternity.

I don't think if Jesus existed, he was a liar. But I do think no one really knows, or will ever know exactly what he said.
