But When Does the Cellulite Go Away? May 17 2009

"We do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope, or those who don’t have faith in Christ. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus, or died in Christ, before us. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep, or died in Christ. For the Lord, Himself, will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words." - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

There is confusion, and perhaps some concern, about the timing of when Christians receive their new bodies. Does it occur at the moment of death or is there a waiting period before they are issued? When a Christian dies, the physical body begins to decompose, but our spirit is immediately with the Lord in heaven. But when Christ is preparing for His return, there will be the rapture. While the word "rapture" itself doesn’t appear in Scripture, 1 Thessalonians 4:7 does talk about being “caught up together” (which is what the word "rapture" means). So those who are alive when Christ comes will be joined in the clouds with those who have already died and are with the Lord. Those who have already died will, at that time, be given a resurrected body that is like Jesus’ body. Those who are Christian and alive here on earth will also receive a new body. It will be a body that will not get sick. It will not be contaminated by sin. It will be a new body like Jesus’s – a resurrected body that never dies. Bottom line: as best as I can tell, we receive our new bodies at the rapture, not the moment we die.

If you’re not a Christian, not sure if you die today your spirit will be in Heaven with the Lord, don’t wait any longer to be sure. You don’t want to miss out on Heaven and you don’t want to miss out on a new body that never gets sick and dies.

I have been struggling some with cremation. Does this scripture cover this? I would assume it doesn't matter if our bodies decompose or are cremated, we will receive a new one.

Thank you so much for this coming when it did.
My did is in the process of leaving this world, and I am in the process of letting him know what he needs to believe, giving him the hope that I have. I was confused about the timing of it all. This has helped me to sort it out.
Again, Thank you. Helen

Helen, If your Dad is saved let him know that the scriptures tells us "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." If he isn't saved then let him know that as long as he has breath in his body, then he has the chance to be saved. I will be praying for you and him, my wife and I both have lost both of our Dads and stepdads, so I know what you are going through. You are not alone, I am sure there will be others who will be praying also.

Helen,
As an Hospice nurse, I urge you to sit by him and watch the beautiful , peaceful, journey into the spirit world he will take. It may take day's or weeks but look for him to reach for objects or it may be a loved one. I pray he is a Christisn, so that we can all meet one day.
I was so glad to have this clairfied again as I have many questions from my patients. The spirit with him immediately, as soon as we are absent from ths world and present with him. Once He returns, we will all meet him in the air with our new bodies of his likeness...what a day of glory that will be !!!
I don't want to sound cold but I am excited for him (if he is born again). Do everything you can but hold yourself responsible, he has the free will to make a choice.
I shall be praying for you and have you on my prayer list at church and others.
God bless you Helen,
Jenny

One more thing, Helen...if you have never heard "Midnight Cry", please try to find it. The song speaks of exactly this message and so beautifully sung. Get "Glory To The Son Of God", that makes your heart pound and the urge to say, "take me now Lord". Play these in the room for him as you sit. God placed on my heart to tell you of these two songs. Please let us know

Just a note. In the context of the Bible the day to be with Jesus is a day in the future when all rise at the same time. Only in the part where Jesus talks to the criminal on the cross is there a today you will be with me. But it depends on where you put the comma. There was no comma in Greek. So it needs to be read in context with the rest of the writings.

if, say, a 8 year old dies, will the new body be that of an 8 yr old that will grow in size thru the years (if there are yrs in heaven.) or will it take on an adult body. over time will the bodies change or never change?

Bill, the Bible says we will be known as we are known. This could mean that the 8yr old will be known as just an 8yr old. One thing for sure we won't dissatified because we will look like Him.

"This could mean that the 8yr old will be known as just an 8yr old."

If that's the case, I should have died when I was 19! That'd suck if you had to spend the rest of your days as a baby or a 90 year old.

Why can't you Christians just keep with your spiritual view and try not to relate it with this world i.e. body, aging, diseases, etc. Seems like, once again, a sophomoric view.

Since we are going to spend all eternity with an awesome body, let's go now! Why the wait? Everyone should just kill themselves now.
