A Man After God's Own Heart Jul 11 2009

“I have sinned against the Lord…” - 2 Samuel 12:13

Adultery. Murder. Abuse of power. Do these sound like the actions of someone who would have a special place in God’s heart?

Surprisingly, the Bible shows us that King David was a man who found special favor with God, even though he was guilty of all those things. But the Bible also shows us that David recognized his mistakes and called them what they were—sins against God. He asked God’s forgiveness and then committed himself to living God’s way.

Even though we may not have done the same things that David did, we have all sinned. God’s word says, “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” He died to pay the penalty for our sins and to offer us forgiveness.

When you mess up, confess your sin to God just like David did. Ask for God’s forgiveness and for strength to resist sin in the future. Anything you say won’t be a surprise to Him…He knows everything. But He is the only answer to man’s ultimate problem of sin.

This is so true. Confession of our sin in not "informing God" of anything. He already knew. It is an act that we do for ourselves; "confession is good for the soul". Have you ever seen a child that has done something wrong, say broken something around the house? They are miserable, because they are in dread of what will happen when "mommy and daddy find out".

Unfortunately, while we are the same way, many of us become hardenned in our sin. We turn away from God rather than to him. Our soul becomes covered with scar tissue and the joy goes out of us. We may think we are happy without God, but we are just hiding.

Just think of it. There is someone who loves us more than we love ourselves(do you like yourself in spite of your weaknesses?). There is someone who knows us better than we know ourselves (do you know the number of hairs on your head?) God does and he loves for us to "be (people) after his own heart"; to seek him when we are afraid or have done something wrong. Yes indeed, "forgiveness" is good for the soul.

RFTH, Isn't there some way to remove all the previous comments on this July 11 devotion that are obscene? Is the site under some sort of spiritual attack? Anyway, I will pray for those who are caught up in the misuse of this site.
