How Christians Should Disagree Aug 01 2009
"But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, ‘As I live, saith the Lord, ‘every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.’ So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." - Romans 14:10-12
Years ago, in Great Britain, there were two key spiritual leaders in the evangelical church of that day, George Whitfield and John Wesley. John Wesley was the founder of the Methodist church. George Whitfield was the Billy Graham of that day, an incredible evangelist and preacher. These two great preachers had a big difference in theology. George Whitfield was a staunch Calvinist in his theology, strong on the sovereignty of God. Wesley was a staunch Armenian, strong on the free will of man to decide whether or not to receive the love of God and salvation in Jesus Christ.
There began to be some division within the evangelicals of Great Britain. Knowing what these two spiritual giants believed, people began to fall into two camps. One day John Wesley was asked, “Will you see George Whitfield in heaven?” Wesley immediately replied, “NO!” And then after a long pause, he added, “Whitfield will be at a level so close to God, that people like me will not be able to get close to him!”
Now if ever there’s a way to diffuse a theological division in the body of Christ, that’s the spirit with which to do it. What an example for us today! We may have a thousand reasons for why certain people don’t deserve our love, but the fact is Jesus says, “…dear friends, love one another!”

Yes, report it NevermindWhat a beautiful story. I am in the middle of a study called "Reclaiming the Wesleyan Spirit". I just finished Wesley's Sermon on Predestination, which was in direct response to Whifield's Calvanism. I am convinced that the issue of Election is one of those mysteries of the scripture that we can never fully comprehend. God is most certainly Sovereign, and what he wills he will bring to pass. But man is also called to respond to his call. How and when we recieve the Grace of Faith to do this is where the mystery lies.

Yes, report it NevermindGrant, That is very true, it is not the difference that we may have defining the scriptures but it is what God says that counts. I am saved and when I die I will be on my way to glory.
