In the Spirit Nov 03 2009
"When they had brought them, they stood them before the Council. The high priest questioned them saying, 'We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man's blood upon us." But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men.'" - Acts 5:27-29
I’ve spoken and written a great deal about “dangerous Christianity.” A prime example of dangerous Christianity is to obey God whenever His laws conflict with man’s laws. I realize today that the call to obey God’s law, rather than man’s in the conflict, is a dangerous message. Why?
1. The Christian Fool Syndrome
In every body of believers there are some Christian fools. They hear a sermon to obey God over man-made morality, and boy, are they excited about going out and stirring it up. So they go out with the best of intentions to tell those in authority over their lives where they are wrong. They confuse defiance and rebellion with Godliness, when in most cases, they are simply obnoxious fools. Can’t you picture God, from heaven, looking at them, shaking His head, and saying, “Bless their hearts!”
2. This one can be really dangerous – Being led by the Holy Spirit and God’s Word
When God gives us an open door to speak about our faith in Christ, or what God says is right, we need to do it in the Spirit. And yes, there may be repercussions, and yes, there may be objections, and yes, there may be legitimate persecution in doing so. But it’s not because we are acting the fool. It’s because we are obeying God, rather than man, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
So, Christian, seek to be filled with God’s Spirit. Follow His prompting and then leave the results up to God.

Yes, report it NevermindI believe that one of the ways to know whether a person is being led of the spirit when they feel that they are to speak out about an unjust law is where is their anger or righteous indignation directed. Is it directed at specific people or is it directed towards the law itself? If it's directed at specific people and they verbally attack them, the chances are that they are not being directed by the Holy Spirit.

Yes, report it NevermindFor a long time Christians have been told that our faith and beliefs are offensive to unbelievers and thus we are being deprived our our rights now. This country was built on Christian faith and morals and it has been fine until the last 50 years or so. This is not because of our faith but because we have deserted our faith. I feel that we need to stand up and let people know whose side we are on. Joshua said "as for me and my house , "we are going to serve the Lord." That is how I stand.I don't believe it is right to cram our beliefs down anyones throat but neither should I have to stand still and have someone tell me that I can't worship and live for the Lord either. It is just like Bryant said, don't be a fool but we do need to be faithful to the one who died for us. God bless everyone.

Yes, report it NevermindI would like to add emphasis to Jerry's first comment. From the time Jesus began his earthly ministry his message of "exclusivity" was offensive to those who held other beliefs. It has continued, without end, to this day.
Christianity - Christ's saving grace - is at once both the most inclusive AND most exclusive religion there is. It is available to ALL who believe, but ONLY to them.
Thank God for his Holy Spirit who brings us to, nourishes, protects and sustains us in our belief.
