Supernatural Birth Dec 19 2009

"...an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, 'Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.'" - Matthew 1:20

Imagine your high school honey, whom you love and believe is a good person because she doesn't believe in sex before marriage, saying, "I'm pregnant, but don't be mad, because I'm still a virgin." How would you respond?

This scenario really happened about 2000 years ago. In fact, the guy was named Joe and his pregnant girlfriend was Mary. She told him God caused her to become pregnant.

At first, Joe didn't believe Mary, and thought about breaking up with her. When an angel appeared to Joe and told him Mary was telling the truth, he stayed with her, believing the Lord in faith.

For the rational, secular, scientific mind of the twenty-first century, this story is incredible. But it's the story of Christmas--the story of Jesus' birth. The question: Do you believe? Be it Jesus' birth or His resurrection, I want you to know you've got to believe it fully to experience the wonder of Christmas.

Yes, report it Nevermind

I believe this story, and it became real to me in 1969.I love reading and hearing of the birth of Christ at any time of the year. I know there are some who does not believe in the virgin birth, there are even some who fill the pulpits every Sunday as ministers who do not believe the facts of the virgin birth. And this is very sad. It is real to me and I rejoice everytime I hear or read it. Please help me pray for my nephew, he is 17 yrs old and he found out yesterday that he has Multiple Scierosis.

I believe also. A God who can create our beautiful world and cause beautiful little babies to be born from two tiny seeds is proof enough for me. It's a great confort to be able to have such a great friend who understands your every thought.

Gail, Bryant was playing a little bit on his story style. Its okay, he was talking about Joseph. :=)

I realize that, Jerry. It just took a little bit of the awe away from the account. No offense taken.

I like the way Bryant tells the story. I believe that his intent was to put us in Joseph's shoes, by making the story contemporary. We read of Mary's faith and obedience yesterday, but we seldom take time to consider "Joe". After all, he pretty much fades away while Mary occupies a prominent position in our Lord's story right to the end. What would you do if, say, your daughter came home and told you such a story? Would you believe her? Joseph was presented with an incredible challenge of faith, honor and love.
