A Wonderful Opportunity Feb 25 2010

"It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God." - Luke 6:12

Sometimes the demands of my ministry are overwhelming and I wake up in the night. Whenever I fight the restlessness, just tossing and turning and trying to go back to sleep, I find myself exhausted the next day. But sometimes I have enough sense to recognize that perhaps it's the Lord Who has awakened me. I will get up and start pouring out my heart to Him. And you know what? Those impromptu sessions in the middle of the night are some of my most rewarding times. These moments create an opportunity to have unrushed time alone with God. I'm able to hear His voice and understand His guidance. It's like He speaks in a special way that I haven't really been hearing Him, and I treasure those time, even though sometimes I am slow to recognize that I need to get up and get out of that warm bed. And as a bonus, I don't wake up exhausted, but refreshed.

Realize God blesses you greatly when you spend regular time alone with Him. Take advantage of opportunities that present themselves; it may just be that God is trying to squeeze some one-on-one time into your busy schedule!

Yes, report it Nevermind

In my life, the greatest example of spiritual warfare occurs around prayer. I know that the most important thing I can do each day is pray. However, right before I am about to do so, thoughts pop up in my head - things like "you can do it later. What about that project you are working on? Check your e-mail. Get some sleep. You prayed for that already. You prayed for them already." Ect, ect...

Now, when those thoughts pop up, I know it is the perfect time to stop what I'm doing and pray.

The devotion says, "Take advantage of opportunities that present themselves." A great opportunity is when one starts to worry about something. That is an opportune time to go to God in prayer for He tells us to not worry about anything but to come to Him in thanksgiving. Philippians 3:6 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." Worries try to take hold during the day and at night. Let God take the reins before the worries take you somewhere you don't want to go!

this one really spoke to me. I fight the WILL of GOD every day. Not that I really want too, but I do. The other night I woke in the middle of the night and it took me more than three hours to fall back asleep. NOW I know why! Yes Lord I WILL LISTEN NO MATTER WHAT TIME OF DAY OR NIGHT YOU CHOOSE. Thank you one minute for all you do...everyday!!!

Someone once told me, "instead of counting sheep; talk to the shepherd". Cute play on words? I thought so, until I gave it a try. That was 15 years ago, and it's a habit now.

These are trying times. Jesus is the one who will never let you down. He and the Father sent the Holy Spirit to comfort and uplift us after his resurection.

The rest of Janice's verse is "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus".

I love that verse.
