Showing Your Love Through Obedience Mar 18 2010
"Jesus says, 'He who has My commandments and keeps them, is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him, and will disclose Myself to him.'" - John 14:21
Is Jesus saying, "We've got to earn the love of God by being good?" Remember, when we study the Word of God we always want to look at Scripture in light of Scripture. There's no doubt that we are saved by faith alone. But, there's also no doubt that the way we prove we are really saved is how willingly we obey God. Think about it this way: It's not like God doesn't love bad little boys and girls, because God loves everyone. For instance, as a loving parent, you love your children, no matter what they do. If they're bad, you still love them. But when that child consistently obeys you, you appreciate that child even more! Why? Because that child is saying, "I trust you enough to do what you're asking me to do!" Life is better for them, and for you, when they do.
It's the same way with God. God loves all of us even when we're bad. But, God surely does love it more when we're obedient to Him. Because God knows that when we trust Him, we really do love Him! He appreciates that, like any parent would.

Yes, report it NevermindThis devotion is so true. It gets us thinking about obedience and what does the Lord ask or command us to do. We can't know without reading the Bible. Some things that I think of off the top of my head are to love God above all else, love my neighbor as myself, the Ten Commandments, take communion (Jesus said, "Do this in remembrance of me), and pray in all things. I have gotten a list started and hope that others will add to it. Blessings!
