"You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32
Is there such thing as absolute truth?
Most Americans say there isn't. A recent study showed that seventy-one percent of American adults believe there is no such thing as absolute truth. To most of them, truth is relative--relative to their own situation. This means people are creating their own personal moral code, which can be a recipe for disaster. For when truth is relative, absolutely anything seems okay.
So is there absolute truth?
Absolutely! But it's not found in a religion, a philosophy, or in the ever-changing world of science. It's found in a person--Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, the life." He is the way to God, the truth about right and wrong, and the key to abundant life.
Do you want to know absolute truth? Look to Jesus Christ in God's Word. Do you want to know how to live the truth? Just look and see what Jesus did.

Yes, report it NevermindThis is a lost generation. Not too many people care about the truth anymore because the truth is too painful to bear. That's too bad.

Yes, report it NevermindThank you so very much for having the strength, courage, and conviction to stay true to God's word and absolute truth. As a singer, I am often called to sing in various churches, and it is so painful to hear all too often how many churches no longer proclaim the absolute truth of God's word--instead claiming that there is no absolute, that Jesus is merely one of the ways, but that all are saved by Jesus' shed blood no matter what their beliefs, thoughts, words, or deeds. Again, thank you.

Yes, report it NevermindKevin is right. People don't want to hear the truth. Most people will take comforting fictions and shallow maxims over the truth any day. I disagree with the statement that science is "ever-changing". Scientific knowledge increases, yes but the underlying methodologies DO NOT CHANGE. If science was unreliable
then we wouldn't have tvs, computers, cars, medicines, radio ministries...you see my point, right? Here's an interesting truth- BW says we should "look to Jesus Christ"...but does anyone else know that Jesus' name wasn't
Jesus? Nor was it Christ. In fact, if you went back in time and caught up with the disciples and asked to speak to Jesus they would look at you like you were crazy. Jesus? Never heard of him, they would say, Is he anything like Joshua?....Strange but true. Ask your pastor if you want to see him sweat. And think about that next time you look to the unchanging truth of Jesus Christ.

Yes, report it NevermindI totally agree Kevin and on a couple of occasions have mentioned that we have become more of a country based on fantasy than reality. This is because our main source of entertainment has become watching reality shows, going in chatrooms, surfing the net and playing video games. The most ironic part of the term "reality tv" is that it's only reality for those in the show. For everyone else, it's an escape and fantasy. If more people lived their life in reality, there would be alot more fulfillment and happiness.

Yes, report it NevermindThank you for this reminder of one of the many attributes and perfections of Jesus. I love this promise of knowing the truth that sets me free. It can come only from God's truth and not from any individual's manufactured truth. This also reminds me of John 14:16 where Jesus said, "Then I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever--the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides with you and will be in you." Praise God for His truth.

Yes, report it NevermindI would bet that most all seminary trained pastors know that Jesus' name in Hebrew is pronounced Yeshua, that it means "salvation," and that it is sometimes translated as Joshua too. I can't imagine that--in and of itself-- causing someone question their faith or think that someone is trying to deceive them. After all, George is pronounced "Hor Hay" in other countries, and Jesus is pronounced "Hay Soos." It doesn't affect absolute truth.

Yes, report it NevermindNice to hear from you, Andy. You're right, "A rose by any other name..." However, it's kind of unsettling don't you think, to think that the Bible can't even get the guy's name right?

Yes, report it NevermindJesus is just the Latinized name for Yeshua if I'm not mistaken. Same name--same person--same God. Andy makes a good point with his translation of George (Jorge-spanish) (Georges-French) (Giorgio-Italian).

Yes, report it NevermindJesus is latin transliteration of a Greek transliteration of a hebrew name, about which scholars are divided- some say Yeshua, some Yeshushua. Nobody really knows. I wonder if our Lord ever gets upset that we don't even take the time to find out what His real name was?

Yes, report it NevermindThe truth shall make you free.....Oh, how true that is. Anyone who has experienced this in a situation knows the joy of just telling the truth. It is indeed freeing and truly profound.

Yes, report it NevermindWe have a fridge magnet that says,"I have no greater joy than to know that my children are in the Lord ." Twenty years ago I wouldn't even have thought that made any sense...and would have privately thought that anyone who believed it was at best quite provincial ! I am so grateful that I opened my heart to Jesus Christ and know the TRUTH !! His message is so very simple and it is there for all of us...this statement comes from an anthropology major, the daughter of a church attending choir soloist who was an agnostic (who incidently died at 52 still doubting the saving grace of Jesus Christ).Do not get caught up in running down rabbit holes, trying to prove that Christ may not be the Way.OPEN YOUR HEART TO CHRIST....and let Him take you where He wants you to go !!! Do not get sidetracked by biblical minutiae or over-intellectualizing Christ. He died for our sins (everyone's sins),and He offers you the greatest joy you will ever know if you will only accept it...it's that simple.Think about it...would any 12 men you know die to uphold a lie ? Come on...someone would have stepped forward and blown the whistle !Have you ever heard of anyone else 33 years old who had a three year ministry that is still believed by millions!! ENJOY JESUS...That's the TRUTH !!!

Yes, report it NevermindSusan: History is replete with people who died for lies. And Joseph Smith was only 38 when he died. He currently has 13 million followers.

Yes, report it NevermindJohn 8:32 is an often quoted verse and most Christians know it. After all it is an awesome thought as many of us want to be free of the world.
But this verse in the second half a two sentence statement made by Jesus. Ask people what the first part of the statement is and many do not know. It's this in verse 31:
Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. (NLT)
So we are shown here what is required for us to know the truth. We must become Jesus' disciples and be faithful to His teachings.
This is another great devotional and I am not trying to take away from that. I only want to give more information on John 8:32 which, taken together with verse 31, gives us a clearer view of how we "shall know the truth" and it "shall make you free".
