Jesus and Church Hypocrites Aug 20 2007

"But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." - Matthew 6:6

One of the main objections to Christianity and the church is all the hypocrisy and, no doubt, there's a ton of it. Most people outside the church don't realize how much Jesus hates hypocrisy, as well. In His most famous sermon He blasted showy giving and praying that was designed to impress others rather than to please God and help our fellow man.

He says the best way to give to others, is to do it anonymously. The best way to pray is to seek out a place to be alone with God and privately pour out your heart to Him.

It's not that Jesus is down on doing good publicly; it's the motive that matters to God. One thing's for sure...showy religious hypocrites don't impress God at all. So don't miss out on Jesus Christ because of the hypocrisy in the church. Take a fresh look at Him in God's Word. The more you see, the more you'll like, because He despises hypocrisy even more than you do.

I totally agree that it's good to have a quiet place to pray. Even though there is a prayer room at church that has scheduled times to sign up for, I like the small prayer closet that they have now. It's easy to slip in there anytime when you feel your heart is burdened, and you need a place away from distractions of your home, phone, cell phone, email, and, well...just people. No one but God can find me there.

These devotionals always make me think. Until today it had never occurred to me that when we close our eyes to pray it is like going reverently into a prayer closet. God provided a readily available 24/7 symbolic prayer closet when He made our eyelids. Of course, the hypocrites would be the ones who close their eyes during the prayer time at church and then fall asleep or let their mind wander. Come to think of it, I have been there done that on occasion myself.

Its pretty sad how we the people of God act towards one another , we all want to live in Heaven together... but one says ,"I dont want to be around her" and another says.. " there not my type"
But Jesus loved them ALL .. even the worst... We need to be more helpful to Gods people if we plan to live together one day...
sorry if i sounded to blunt about it but I have had this happen to me... pretty sad when Christains act just like the world..... God bless and God please open our eyes...
