The Antichrist Aug 15 2007

"For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect." - Matthew 24:24

Who's the most charismatic leader you've ever seen - past or present? Is it a political leader, religious leader, or a leader in academia? Leaders can be a tremendous influence for good or evil.

The Bible talks about a great leader who will burst onto the world scene. He will appear to be good, seeking to bring unity and peace to the world. He will focus on the desire for economic prosperity. He will be an extraordinarily brilliant and gifted leader who will cause the world to be in awe.

But don't be led astray. The Bible calls him the Antichrist. He will be incredibly attractive and charismatic, but all about himself. He will be the embodiment of evil, but appear to be good. He will be an imposter and counterfeit of the one Man who will ultimately bring true peace--Jesus Christ. That's why this man is called the Antichrist. Study what the Bible says about the contrast of the

Antichrist and Jesus. Believe, and don't be deceived.

Although I do not dwell on this issue, I really wonder if we are truly at the beginning of the end times. There seem to be many signs that might point to this prophesy unfolding in our lifetime. There are certainly wars, and rumors of war. There seem to be quite a few natural disasters that have caused a lot of devastation and loss of life in the last few years, and I don't think anyone would argue that we are in a period of steady moral decline in our society. I don't know if this has always gone on or we are more aware because of the internet and 24x7 news channels looking to fill air time.
What are everyone else thoughts on this issue?

It is a very scary time. Much more than so than during the cold war period with Russia. Go to www.USAWakeUp.org and you will become very concerned over the growing threats of terrorism. I pray God will keep us safe from these people who have little value for human life, even their own!

Only the Father knows the day and hour. He gave us eyes and ears so we can be on the lookout and be prepared. It seems with the abilities of communication today that we could in our lifetime see the Gospel preached to the whole world which is suppose to happen before the end. Communications (internet, media, etc.) give us the bad news of what is happening in the world but also gives us the good news of Christ and points us to read the Bible so we can rejoice beforehand that in the end God wins. Antichrist loses.

We've been living in the 'end times' ever since Jesus told people the end of the world would be coming soon. Later new testament writers, embarrassed that Christ had not returned to usher in the promised apocalypse, were forced to make flimsy excuses to the faithful: "a day is as a thousand years...". We get most of our information about the Antichrist from Revelation- a book of dubious origins, written in appallingly bad Greek and not considered authoritative by many in the early church. None of which matters of course since the antichrist, whose identity was almost certainly the Roman emperor Nero, is long dead and can do us not much harm. He is quite helpful though in his role as bogeyman, scaring the faithful into church and selling books for
fundamentalist whackos.

I feel that when *the truth* of Jesus is known to a person, the antichrist will and does stand out to that person like a bloodstain on an otherwise pristine white sheet of paper. Being able to seperate the true from the false, the real from the artificial , the good from the bad is a gift that I feel that Jesus offers. I pray often for the strength to resist particulars that I know embody the artificial and false traits.

This is an area where I feel I cannot forget to be as real and true in my life as I can, so that I don't get confused or start making excuses or rationalizing, which can lead to temptation and being easily "sold" on bad ideas.
