Definition of Success Jul 21 2007
"Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law My servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go." - Joshua 1:7
How do we become a lasting success? What would your definition be?
Ann Landers, the great guru of newspaper advice, once wrote, "To a great many people, money is a measure of success. If they are living on a lavish scale, they think they are successes. And yet many are dismal failures."
Og Mandino, the author of The Greatest Salesman In The World, says, "The only difference between success and failure is good and bad habits - success is a state of mind."
What is your definition of success? Let me suggest this one: Success is the process of fulfilling your purpose in life and doing it well. In short, success is a by-product of a life well lived.
I propose to you that the most successful person who ever lived is Jesus Christ. He knew what His purpose was: to reveal God to us in a person and to offer himself as our Savior by dying for our sins. He fulfilled it perfectly. Jesus Christ was the most successful man who ever walked this earth. Why don't you look to Him in faith? He'll put you on the road to success--God's way.

Yes, report it NevermindI started reading this devotional 17 days ago on my iPhone using YouVersion. First of all let me say thanks for making this available on these formats. I hope and pray many will read it and be influenced by it. (Proverbs 19:20)
Secondly I would like to comment on this day's devotional. I really hope that people who are reading this day's devotional are aware of just how important what is being said here is.
We are being presented here the definition of success, and beautifully so, but I think it is even more. A lot more! This is the definition of health for the entire spectrum of our being.
I know because I have been looking for the definition of health this last year after something I did created a huge crisis for our family. I realized it happened because I was not healthy. That does not excuse what I did though - as I am responsible for myself. But it got me searching for answers as only a crisis in our lives can.
Realizing I was not healthy and wanting to be so my wife and I, who is on this journey for health with me, realized we did not know what we were looking for because we did not have a definition of health. (How can you find what you are looking for if you don't know what it is?)
Well, only in the last few weeks God has given me the definition of health and it is almost exactly what is given here. Trade 'success' for 'health' and we get "Health is the process of fulfilling your purpose in life and doing it well."
This still leaves one question though and it's a biggie "What is my purpose?". Well this is where I can no longer help you. It is one of those answers you have to search for and find on your own. If I told you my answer it would not suffice.
I will give you a hint though. The answer is out there and it will be unique to you. God has the answer and He will give it to you if you ask with a humble heart. The answer is also available in God's Word. Here are some verses that have helped me find my answer.
Ephesians 5:1-14
Mark 12:28-34
Ephesians 3:19
John 8:31-32
Romans 3:22
Ecclesiastes 7:29
I hope and pray that this wonderful devotional will lead you to search for something deeper within yourself and you can find success/health.
