The First Mile
"...let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith..." - Hebrews 12:1-2
So much is said about going the extra mile...and that's a good thing. In fact, Jesus Christ taught us to go the extra mile in service to others. But we often overlook the importance of going the first mile. Joggers know, when in training, it is not always the third or fourth mile that is the toughest but rather it is the first mile! To just get started sometimes can be our biggest challenge.
How do you start your day? You probably have a whole list of things that need to be accomplished. Sometimes there is so much stuff we are so overwhelmed that we don't know where to start. Other times we jump over some very important things knowing there is so many other things to do. Start that first mile of the day by quietly spending a few moments in scripture and in prayer and you will find the rest of the day is much easier to navigate.
Remember, whether you are training for the big road race or simply for the daily race of life, the extra mile does not mean anything unless you faithfully go the first one.

This is very true. For those of you who do not already follow this, i would reccomend it. - F.D.
Very well said. I can't help but notice the remarkable difference in the days that I do start my day off with prayer and thanksgiving and the days (which sadly are most) that I don't. Guess I'd better set the alarm clock a bit earlier eh? Good advice! - Kevin
I read daily devotions from several sources but there is nothing like my quiet time alone just God, my Bible, a cup of coffee and of course my sorry self. When I start out the day like this it just makes things seem easier. No it doesn't make the enemy run and hide but it sure helps give me fresh amnumition to use against him. God bless everyone and have a good day. My coffee is ready. - Jerry
Well said Jerry, this message is so true. How often do we wake up and get on with our lives, but leave God out of the picture. Being continually in His word and praying everyday is the most essential part of Christian growth. Just as we need to food to live, so do we need the Word to spiritually live. this was a real encouragement to me, Thank You and God bless you all. - Adam
A Christian does well to start and end every day on his or her knees. - Grant
I think of the first part of the day somewhat like the concept of firstfruits. The unblemished beginning of a new day, a special time to give to God. I always feel better throughout the day when I have spent time with the Lord in the AM. Sometimes I miss that special time and when I try to make up for it later in the day it just does not have the significance of that quiet time before the noise of the day encroaches. - Janice
THANKS, I so often overlook this simple truth. - jfp
I want to thank all who made a comment it help me to continue to read his word with faith to continue to run the race and donnot stop until I get the gold from him. - Patricia
