Knowing The Truth Sep 22 2007
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory...full of grace and truth." - John 1:14
To know Jesus we need to know Scripture, for Jesus teaches, "Thy Word is truth." Do you believe this?
Today, very few believe in absolute truth, yet Scripture records that Jesus said He is the truth. Jesus claims to be "absolute truth." Truth is found in a person, not a religion, not a philosophy, and not a code of morality. The absolute truth about God is found in Jesus. And the truth of Jesus is discovered in Scripture. Thus, Jesus and Scripture are not mutually exclusive.
We cannot know truth unless we know Jesus.
We cannot know Jesus unless we know Scripture. Therefore, we have to decide if what Jesus says about Scripture is true. So, are Jesus and the Word absolute truth? Absolutely! God reveals Himself in a person, and God reveals that person in His Word, for Jesus says, "Thy word is truth."

Yes, report it NevermindI would like to know how to respond to relatives who say "Yes, Jesus is Truth but he is not the ONLY truth."

Yes, report it NevermindLeaving aside for the moment the issue of whether Jesus existed (probably yes) and whether his words can be known with any accuracy (probably no), we still have to decide what to make of the words that ARE attributed to him. So can we trust this Jesus of Scripture then? Well- he mistakes the mustard seed for the smallest "of all seeds that be in the earth" (Mark 4:31), he mistakenly believes Moses wrote the Pentateuch (many verses), and he occasionally misquotes Scripture (Matthew 4:10). What do you think?

Yes, report it NevermindWhat do I think? I think that I need to pray for Erik.

Yes, report it NevermindOnly you can decide if you believe in God's/Jesus. Only you know if you believe the Word of God is the truth. Anyone can find contradiction in the Bile. It doesn't mean it is wrong or God is not alive, I think that it is to test our faith. We have no problem believing bad news of people in power, we never have a second thought as to their innocence. It is on the internet etc. so it must be true. Yet you can look everywhere and see God and his beauty. It is hard to grasp the love and mercy he has for us. Just accept his love and truth and the questions you have will disappear.

Yes, report it NevermindCasey- why? what have I said that is untrue?

Yes, report it NevermindErik, the truth is, I agree with Erik and ladonna. You can pick the Word and make it say what you want it to say. The "mustard seed" - the truth is - the seed is tiny and when you pinch it between thumb and finger it's not seen or it's barely seen ...... the message is about size, but not the seed, it is about man's heart, mind and soul and the amount of FAITH he posesses/professes ...... With FAITH as small as a mustard seed you can stand, trust, bear one another's burdens, walk through sickness, walk through death, you can be shelter to a one who's hurting, who is lost, sad, depressed ........ the list goes on. Jesus IS the WORD the TRUTH and the LIGHT. HIS examples show us how to love, live and be happy. What truth don't you like about that? Jesus loves us, failings and all. He's right there waiting to answer your questions and give you wisdom to know and do the TRUTH.
Back to the MUSTARD SEED before it can do its thing - we have to dig, plant, nurture to see it come to fruition. One step at a time. Dig a little deeper Erik. God bless you!

Yes, report it NevermindErik, why do you desire that people would forsake God and follow you? What does your religion have to offer?

Yes, report it Nevermindladonna and sherry- so you're saying it doesn't bother you that Jesus makes mistakes when he says things, is that right? You are saying the underlying message is important, not whether Jesus knows botany or quotes Scripture correctly?

Yes, report it NevermindFirst of all I need to correct my mistake .... I meant Casey not Erik.
Regarding botany, what is the correct answer? Are you sure that the mustard seed was not the smallest known seed in Jesus'time? Who / what supplies your truth?
How did HE misquote the scriptures? Did he not speak from Deuteronomy 8:3 in Matthew 4:10?
The truth is, if you choose not to believe that is your choice. If you choose not to trust it is your choice. If you choose not to follow that is your choice.
The truth is we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God.
The truth is a journey to seek and find, to find and know, to know and believe, to believe and accept, to accept and follow, to follow and gain wisdom, to gain wisdom and know the truth and the truth will set you free.
God Bless you as you seek the truth - peace, love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self control. I pray that your journey will lead you to the light you seek.
What about Philippians 4:4-9? John 1:1-5?

Yes, report it NevermindSherry- thanks for the response. Regarding the mustard seed- it's true that it was the smallest seed known to the people of the region (who also wrote the Bible), but you would think Jesus, if he were God, would know that the orchid is actually the smallest of all seeds "that be in the earth". Jesus is wrong but it's ok. It happens to lots of us. On the misquote- no it's not Deuteronomy 8:3 that Jesus is quoting but Deuteronomy 6:13. Interesting that devil actually quotes the Psalms correctly. Maybe he knows the Scriptures better than Jesus.

Yes, report it NevermindLenni, when your relatives state, "Yes, Jesus is Truth but he is not the ONLY truth", then you could to respond to them that they must not then believe that Jesus is the Truth. Jesus says "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). Either Jesus is the Truth or He isn’t. It’s one way or the other. It’s binary. It’s black or white. If someone says that there are other truths, then they are saying that Jesus is not the Truth, because Jesus says that He is the ONLY Truth.
Good luck sharing the Gospel to your family. I understand how hard it can be, especially with family and Relativism. Don't worry about arguing with them too much though. The best way is to let them see how Christ makes a difference in your life. God has many ways to soften hearts.
