Mary - A Great Example of Faith Dec 15 2007
"But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart." - Luke 2:19
The Bible could never be accused of whitewashing the heroes of the faith. Abraham, Jacob, Moses, David, and Peter all had some pretty serious flaws and failures. When we come across a biblical personality who had no recorded obvious flaws and sins, we take note. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is one of those who was always found faithful. And what faith she had! She was a Jewish teenage virgin visited by an angel, and told she would give birth to God's son.
I love Mary's realness. She initially responded like any teenage virgin would today. Disbelief, shock , bewilderment -- probably wondering what her fiance and her family would think. She asked, "How can this be since I am a virgin?" But after the initial shock, she chose to believe God's Word. She's the first to believe in Jesus as her Savior and Lord -- while she carried Him in her womb.
She's the true first lady of the faith. Do you believe as Mary did? What God's word says about Jesus is true.

Yes, report it NevermindUsually I'd be taking this devotion as an occasion to say something about the unreliability of the Bible, but since I'm in the Christmas spirit I'd like to take a second to focus on something positive.
The other day I spent an afternoon looking up the tax returns of various televangelists and prominent mega-church pastors. Whew! What a racket! Those characters really rake it in. But I want to say that this ministry- Bryant Wright's Right from the Heart- was given one of the highest ratings for financial responsibility and accountability.
Now that is a great example of faith! Merry Christmas from Erik.

Yes, report it NevermindErik, why do you spend so much time on trying prove the unreliability of the Word? What are you afraid of? Yes I agree there are those out there reaping in the dough. but there are those of us who live on just trust and belief in this Word and have the faith to know it is true now and forever. I am a missionary who lives on maybe 50 a week and yet all my needs are met. I serve a risen Saviour and fully rely on Him. I hope you your search you will find peace and saving knowledge. I am praying for you. Jan

Yes, report it NevermindI am thankful that we have Jesus to look to as our example, and not those who corrupt or usurp his words for profit. I'm also thankful for people like Bryant Wright, Charles Stanley, Billy Graham, and others like them, who truly have a heart for Christ. I am especially thankful that I am a member of the church Bryant pastors, which is a reflection of his vision and mission.
The Christmas spirit thing is kind of ironic, by the way. I pray that you will come to see the true spirit of Christmas some day.
