What's Your Identity?
"A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray." - Proverbs 12:26
People will often wrap themselves in the identity of other people or groups. Some will choose to be identified as Republicans or Democrats, conservationists or environmentalists, or maybe just part of the elite. Many people, especially here in the South, will embrace the identity of the college they attended, be it Harvard or UCLA, or for the wisest among us - the University of South Carolina. They will wrap themselves in the colors and excitement of that college, even to the point that their mood for the entire week depends on whether their football team won or lost the previous Saturday. (I wish I didn't battle this disease.)
How about you? Is there someone you have chosen to identify with? Be careful with that decision, because the person you become will reflect whomever you choose to follow and befriend. And the image that others have of you will reflect those with whom you identify. Knowing that, it only makes sense to choose to be identified with Jesus Christ. Even those who don't follow Him never question His character.
Have you chosen to follow Christ? To let His Spirit give you the desire for Him to be your role model? Do your actions indicate that you identify with Him? Do others see Jesus in you? What's your identity?

The best compliment I've ever had is when a friend said she saw the love of Christ in me. I'm afraid that most times I'm not reflecting that as I should.
GO VOLS!!! - Melanie
It is not the calm and quite that causes the identity crisis to occur, but it is when the pressure is applied that the true nature of the spirit emerges...character flaws and all...Oh, and go big Orange... - igoseeku2
This reminds me of some words to a song I wrote: Reflect the love that God has shown to you, through Christ his son in all you say and do, hold up your light so all the world can see, the love of Christ alive in you and me.
- Larry
Good devotion and one for the mind as well as the heart, as a man thinks so he is. Keeping our minds Christlike is a difficult task, but one God gives us the ability to accomplish and live, even when we fail there is room for Christ to be seen in us by how we react to that failure. The road is hard and full of trials and heartache, but then comes the end of the tunnel where there is JOY and VICTORY and PEACE, and best of all a life time eternal with Christ! AMEN AMEN. Go Michigan!!!!!! - Jan-Mexico
I am always comparing my walk with Christ with other friends of mine in youth group. This devotion just reminded me that I am who I am. God loves ME, not who i WANT to be. Its my own relationship with him that I need to take at my own pace. - Isabella
It is interesting to me that everyone replying has a different ball team that they cheer for and yet we all can agree that Jesus is who we need to be like.
But when we are all cheering for the same team, the kingdom of God, we divide and disagree for some reason. I know that will change as we seek to become more "Christ-like". When we can keep the main thing the main thing, we will become a unified church. We will become as one, as Jesus and God are one.
And furthermore, WAR EAGLE!!!! - Keith R.
To have others see Jesus in me is my greatest desire. Sadly, I don't always live my life in such a way that reflects Him. I am praying that God will help me shine His light through my words and my actions more than ever before. Okay, I can't help myself. Gig 'em Aggies! - MES
Go Eagles! Go Panthers! Sting those Dawgs, Yellow Jackets! Besides being all teams in the state of Georgia, these team names all honor God because they were named after creatures of His creation. Go God!!! - Janice
Sometimes people will associate themselves with groups or other people to make themselves look more important. They will stick to them like a leech untill something bad happens to this group and then they will fall off of them like fleas will a dead dog, and then they will find someone else to join up with. The one I want to to be associated with is the Saviour himself, but even then we shouldn't call ourselves christians untill someone can see Christ in us. Remember just because we sit in a garage don't make us a car just like being a member of a Church doesn't make us a christian. It takes a born again experience in our lives to get us to Heaven. God bless and have a good evening. - Jerry
