The Depth of Agape Love
"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love." - 1 John 4:7-8
Now if you've been in the church a while, you may not feel there's anything new that you can hear about agape love because you've heard so much about it throughout your life. But the passage from 1John really does give some fresh insight about this important character trait of a Christian. Here are some of those traits about this important Christian concept of love:
1. God is the source.
2. Agape love is a sign that we're born of God or that we know God.
3. It is best seen through the love of God in Jesus Christ.
4. It takes the initiative.
5. Agape is a self-sacrificing love.
6. When received, we're to pass it on.
7. It allows us to see the invisible God.
8. It is God's love in perfection.
There's a lot more to the concept than you thought, isn't
there? Use this list as a starting point in understanding the remarkable depth of agape love. And ask God to help you demonstrate it to everyone you meet.

I'm currently reading a part of a book discussing the differences between other major religions (Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc.) and Christianity. You'll not hear of this kind of love being taught with the others. Only through the love that Jesus Christ has shown us, taught us and gives us. It leads us into the supernatural ways of acting toward each other that our human nature goes against. - Melanie
Melanie, This morning while I was listening to Christian radio I heard someone say that our religion is the only one that has a wounded God. I do not know if that point is made in the book you are reading. He loved us so much He got wounded and died for our sakes. He is truly an awesome God unlike any other. He inspires agape love in those who invite Him into their life. We are enabled to act toward other people on His level when He lives in us and guides our actions. - Janice
I have been away from God and the christian walk of life. I have been trying to find my way back. I was raised as a child in the UPC religion I left it at the age of 18 as I don't beleave that they are the only people that are going to haven. after reading the scripture 1John that is on this page today. I know that they are not the only ones. I know our God is a loving God and his door is open to all of us. thank you for this site. - Yolanda
