The Pure in Heart
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." - Matthew 5:8
What did Jesus mean when He declared in the Sermon on the Mount, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God?" To a great extent, having a pure heart is wrecked because of sexual immorality. Many Christians are living spiritually impotent lives because we have fallen into a mindset of sexual immorality or sensuality or impurity to the point that it blocks our vision and understanding of God. Many non-believers have no inkling or understanding of ever seeing God because of this lifestyle of sexual immorality and impurity and sensuality.
Jesus tells us that when we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will cleanse us of all unrighteousness. When we do decide to live a life that is pleasing to Him, we can begin to get a glimpse of what Jesus is teaching when He says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for those are the ones that see and know God."
May this be the case for all of us!

What a great devotion this is. Living with a pure heart is difficult sometimes as we all know. Temptations around every corner and even worse, evils not just residing on the fringe anymore waiting for you to step outside but are actually being welcomed into the mainstream as a norm. I am only stong in mind and body when I follow the will of god. It is in your name that I pray. Amen. - Matthew
The last couple of devotionals have been about sexual behavior... Why? - Deborah Hall
Deborah, thank you so much for your question. There's no particular reason that we have two devotions on sexual immorality in a row, other than God just led us to put them in back to back. Perhaps one of our viewers is dealing with something in that area and needed a second message on it. Blessings to you. - RFTH
I have a friend who has caused such havoc in her life and the lives around her by having an affair, leaving her husband and living with the new man. If I were to suggest to her that what she is doing is wrong, she would think I have lost my mind! This is a person who has gone to church her whole life. We make our lives so complicated and twisted when we do whatever we want regarding sex, rather than follow His guidelines. Once again, He knows what's best for us. - Melanie
Deborah, I do kind of see your point but I also notice how much sexual temptation these days is such a root of problems in other areas of people's lives. Just yesterday I found out my cousin is leaving her husband we all have grown to know and love and is moving in with a man she has been having an affair with. She is also bringing her two young children with her. So sad and so self centered. - Matthew
We need to look no farther than our dear ex-presidential candidate for unfortunately a perfect example. Sorry couldn't help myself - christ follower
Ex presidesntial candidate? heck......how about our ex President period? Someone that used that power to be sexually permiscuous and internally, I am sure causing unbearable heartache upon his family. Hope you all have a great weekend and may god bless you all. - Matthew
We now live in a period of human life where we don't have the moral's that we once had. Marriage is not sacred anymore, nobody gives respect to other people, making money has become more important than spending time with the ones we love. If we turn on the t.v. sex is thrown into our face in many different ways and adultry is the most pushed issue of most of the shows. When this is what we are faced with constantly then this is the issue that ministries need to address most. The Bible tells us that when we see the wolf coming and we don't warn the people then their blood will be on our hands when they fall. RFTH is right to remind us of what is out there ahead of us. I don't have a problem in this area but I don't want someone else not to be able to hear the warning being given, just as if there is a problem in my life that I need to know about and this forum needs to write about it so as to wake me up, they could be the only way God gets thru to my heart. I once told a woman where I used to Pastor that if the sermon doesn't pertain to her, then don't worry her message could be coming soon. God bless and have a good day - Jerry
As always, well said Jerry. As I am reading this, a news headline popped up about one of the U.S. gymnasts that competed yesterday. It was not about her performance at all. It was solely to state how hot she looked and how many hits her Myspace page has taken since walking out in that skimpy outfit and how nice her body looked. Totally overlooking the years of sacrifice and character it takes to make it to the Olympics. - Matthew
Yeah but to be fair Matthew, you have to admit she was pretty hot. - Erik
I want to add to what Jerry said, in that this may not be a message meant for you, but everyone needs constant reminders and encouragement so we don't fall. But the great thing about scripture is that there is always more there, something for everyone. The Verse says "the pure in heart", and that defines so many levels of purity not just sexually. In thinking about our topic though, I began a thread, so see if you can follow. God is the only one with a truly pure heart, and we are called to be like Him. Therefore, we are to love like He loves. That kind of love loves people in a way that lifts them and draws them to Christ. If you are lovingly drawing the people around you to Christ, then there will be no place for immorality. And if you love them the way God loves them, then your love should be totally lust-free, seeing them as a masterpiece that God seeks to use to bless Him. This applies to every person in your life. That kind of thinking and love will change everything. Thanks for reading. - Amy
Amy, Your comment was a Proverbs 25:11 statement, "A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver." Thanks for your insight. God bless you all as you live victoriously. - Janice
Erik-prayed for you last night :-) - christ follower
Hey Erik, you are absolutely right and I am only human with trying to control my temptations. But I am tired of everything having to be about looks, sex etc. I mean look at the young girl who lip sync'd at the opening ceremony because the girl who really sang it just wasn't "cute enough" to be presentable. - Matthew
