Why Did God Create Marriage? Dec 18 2008
"God created man in His own image. In the image of God, He created him, male and female, He created them." - Genesis 1:27
Scripture places tremendous emphasis on the sanctity of marriage. To understand why God treasures marriage, we need to only look at why God created marriage. God gives us four reasons for this creation right up front, in the book of Genesis.
1. He declares: "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth." God needed the world to be populated and the best way to fulfill His plan was through marriage.
2. God says, "And subdue it and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." In other words, man is to be in partnership with his wife in managing the earth and caring for the environment.
3. "Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him.'" Humankind's deep need for companionship is another reason God established marriage.
4. But that's not all. "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh." God declares that a couple's bodies are for the joy of their mate, an act that defines marriage as a special relationship.
God is clear - from the very beginning - that marriage is integral to His plan. Which is why He demands that marriage be treated as the sacred treasure that it is.

Yes, report it NevermindI see marriage as a reflection of our relationship with God. After all, the church is called the bride of the Lamb.

Yes, report it NevermindPersonally, I don't talk to imaginary people. Talking to people who aren't there is a sign of deteriorating mental health.
Personally, I think women created marriage...no man would design it this way.

Yes, report it NevermindJCO.It must be awful to wake up so angry and unhappy everyday. Is there anything you are happy with? Are you truly at peace with this worldview of yours? It certainly doesn't appear so. There is a peace that surpasses all understanding available to you. Just Seek, Knock, Ask. It will be yours.

Yes, report it NevermindJCO-sincerely sorry that you've obviously not had a very good marital experience. I was blessed to find a man that I will have been blissfully married to 32yrs this Jan. 7th. We rarely argue & both feel very blessed that God brought us together. We even met in church :-) I pray that someday you will be in this type of relationship also. God bless

Yes, report it NevermindI do agree a male and a female human are necessary to reproduce, but it is the modern definition of 'marriage' that is confusing. I doubt the coupling of a man and a women in Genesis is considered a legal union under a government.
Like most Christians frown upon arranged marriages (in which you don't choose your spouse), I wouldn't want the government to control who someone marries.
I have two problems with marriage. I am bisexual and I was born out of wedlock. Stating that reproduction should only happened within marriage would deny my own existence.
If there were no government nor an organized church, how could anyone marry? I believe it is love for one another that is best.
I do feel happy when people marry, but ask yourself: would you want a state religion?
The whole Prop 8 situation reminds me of Sharia law. If religion could be in the US constitution, why not just make the US an Islamic (or any other religion) country?
I hope people find others to love, whether they are lovers or just good friends. Why hate your enemies when you can love your friends?
